Timor-Leste, Instituto Catolico Para Formacao de Professores (ICFP)
Timor-Leste is the poorest country in Asia. During the war for independence in early 2000, 80% of educational institutions were destroyed with 20% of primary teachers and 80% of secondary teachers returning to Indonesia. In 2003, ICFP developed a Teachers’ Training College in the rural town of Baucau.
The aim of the project is to improve the quality of education provided in primary and secondary schools by training teachers to incorporate modern teaching methods in the delivery of the new curriculum. It is anticipated that approximately 200 teachers will graduate with a tertiary teaching qualification in the coming years.
Lenity has committed funding for 5 years to support the Teacher Formation Program.
